As part of the Conservative Group's alternative budget, we are proposing an investment of £1 million to fill over 18,000 potholes.
The Conservative Group have identified savings at the Town Hall to ensure there is investment to fill potholes across Ramsbottom, Tottington, Bury, Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich.
The pothole situation is a disgrace and the current Bury Labour Council have neglected this. In their own budget for 2021/22 there was slippage brought forward of over £600,000.
We will work with communities and Highways Officers to identify priorities. The Conservative Group proposal will ensure around 3,000 potholes are filled in each of the 6 Towns in our Borough. Giving each Town an equal share is a priority to ensure we put an end to favouritism of projects by the current administration. No matter which Party represents an area we will ensure there is equal funding.
Cllr. Nick Jones, Leader of Bury Conservatives said:
I am delighted to announce on Valentines Day that the Conservative Group will give our roads some love. It is a disgrace that the Council have slippage of over £600,000 dedicated to pothole repairs. For many years the Conservative Group have called on extra funding in this area. We are committed to seeing our potholes filled and the £1 million investment for 2021/22 is our commitment and contract with the residents of our wonderful towns.
With this investment we will ensure record numbers of potholes are filled which will benefit our residents and communities across Ramsbottom, Tottington, Bury, Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich.
£1,000,000 will be shared equally across our towns.
Cllr. Paul Cropper, Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group said:
Road safety is a key priority for us and the current state of the roads, as some areas are treacherous for drivers. Potholes and worn surfaces are also costing the council thousands in compensations claims each year. We are committed to investing to ensure potholes are filled across the whole of our borough.
